1800 year old Mosul Church Burned Down by ISIS

Note: I do not support nor identify with nor call to the cause of ISIS/ IS. This is not a defense of their terrorism or their violence or any of their actions. This is intended to be a fact checking investigation.

By now you’ve seen this photo with the claim that ISIS militants have burned down an 1800 year old Church in Mosul:

cc-2014-isischurch

The problem with that would be that the Church in the photo is from Egypt, an entirely different country, and it was burned down in mid-August of 2013, that’s last year. So not only is it from the wrong year, the person who contrived this story couldn’t even be bothered to use a Church in Iraq itself, they used one from a completely different country. Fact checking does not seem to be the best ability of Christians crying persecution.

The issue in Mosul is that the IS de-facto Government, has determined that as the Caliphate, they now have the right to seek taxes from those living within their state. If persons choose not to pay their Government, then they would be asked to leave the state, as they would become a financial burden to the Government. The issue with the taxes therefore, is not one of persecution, but one of Governmental economic policies. The IS is a state with financial burdens and a state at war with the Iraqi Army, and as such, if it seeks to tax some of its citizens who are ineligible to fight on behalf of the state’s army then in place of that they pay a fee or tax known as the Jizya which in effect, is a promissory tax, of which upon acceptance by the state, they assume the role of having the responsibility of protecting those within the state’s boundaries.

Along with the invented story of burning Churches, there has been even more malicious stories of massacres and rapes. I decided a few blog websites by anti-Islamic, anti-Arab, angry Christians with an inferiority complex weren’t a very objective news source. So, I went to the source which the news agencies were quoting themselves, the head of Iraqi Christians on Mosul, Chaldean Patriarch Louis Sako! In his message to the Vatican, there was no mention of burning churches, murders, rapes, beheadings etc.  We all agree that ISIS/ IS is evil and pretty violent, but by inventing stories about false atrocities for the chance to claim that your faith is being persecuted is quite low. It takes a person of very low morals to take the plight of a people and use it to manipulate the faithful of the world’s various religions.

The only effect inventing stories about ISIS/ IS can cause, is to legitimize them. If you heard 100 bad things about them, and it turned out a lot of it was false, doesn’t matter if 20 or so of those things actually occurred, you’re going to give the impression that they weren’t as bad as we thought. So in essence, by lying for pity, you’re legitimizing a violent, armed gang. Not the best thing you could’ve done, and yes I’m speaking to you 24/7 Christian persecution websites.

and God knows best.

Local Pastor/ Disney Employee Caught Downloading Child Porn at Work

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ,

This breaking news brought to you by CF News (US), a local news station:

A former Disney manager and local pastor who is accused of looking at child porn at work bonded out of jail early Thursday morning.

Pastor Cedric Cuthbert bonded out of the Orange County Jail and as a condition of his bond he is to have no contact with minors except for his 8 and 11-year-old sons. Disney officials told deputies about Cuthbert’s alleged activities while he was on the clock. He worked there for the past 7 ½ years. Investigators say he was watching child porn and sending messages to underage girls on You Tube from his work computer.

Disney officials say it didn’t seem like Cuthbert was trying to hide anything because they say he used his own password and login info to access the computers and download the child porn. Investigators also say he looked up the porn on the same computer he used to write his Sunday Sermons.

Cuthbert was a pastor at the Historic St. James AME Church in Sanford for the past three years. Cuthbert was let go from his job at Disney and has since apologized for his actions. He now faces multiple charges.

The fact that he worked at a child centric company and did these acts on the job is really disturbing, not to mention that he’s also a Pastor and may have had contact with children from his own Church.

Predator Priest Returns to Duty

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ,

australian priest

A leading Australian priest who sexually preyed on a disabled and vulnerable woman on Sydney’s north shore for 14 years has been allowed to return to preaching and running community groups at one of the nation’s busiest churches.

The recent decision by the Catholic Church to allow Father Tom Knowles to return to full duties at St Francis’ in Melbourne’s central business district after about 16 months of “administrative leave” has outraged his victim and victims’ groups. Father Knowles’s reinstatement comes after the church apologised to Jennifer Herrick, paid her $100,000 in compensation and acknowledged “the harm that can be caused to vulnerable people in such a case”.

Ms Herrick’s story highlights a rarely exposed facet of church abuse: vulnerable adult parishioners who are targeted by their priest for a sexual relationship.

German Priests Carried Out Sexual Abuse for Years

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ,

A report about child sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic Church in Germany, based on victim accounts and released by the church this week, showed that priests carefully planned their assaults and frequently abused the same children repeatedly for years.

The report, compiled from information collected from victims and other witnesses who called a hot line run by the church from 2010 until the end of last year, includes the ages of the victims, the locations of the assaults and the repercussions they have suffered since. The accounts were provided in 8,500 calls to the hot line; they are not representative of abuse cases over all and cannot be individually verified. The church said the report contained information from 1,824 people, of whom 1,165 described themselves as victims.

Germany’s bishops have vowed a thorough and impartial investigation into the abuse. Bishop Stephan Ackermann of Trier, who is looking into abuse cases for the German Bishops’ Conference, told reporters after the report was released on Thursday that it served as an example of that intention.
