John 3:16 Teaches Us Unconditional Love

I would like to encourage missionaries to stop making this claim in regard to John 3:16. The verse does not teach unconditional love. It does not. You simply have to read the verse and you’ll realise this. So, let’s take a look at the verse:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16 (NIV)

The love of God in giving His Son to us, is pivoted on the condition of whoever believes in this happening. Only those who believe that God sent His Son, would earn the merits of God sending the Son and by extension, loving the world. The verse is saying that due to God’s love for the world, He gave His Son, and in giving His Son we will have eternal life and will not perish, if we believe. This love for the world in giving us His Son, is conditional on us believing. Therefore, a condition does exist, you have to believe. For those who God does not love, they will perish and you can only perish if God does not love you.

In conclusion, John 3:16 does not teach that God’s love is unconditional, as the condition of belief exists. Therefore, those who make such a claim most likely have not read the verse properly. Considering it’s one of the most famous, if not the most famous verse of the Bible, it’s pretty ridiculous that anyone can understand it this wrongly.

and Allah knows best.

  • Hi Ijaz
    What Christians are you actually talking about?

  • I’m not sure what sect they’d belong to, but this is the claim they had made. They’re friends with that crazy Monster lady.

  • brother Ijaz, have you written an article on a god rigging the game? if a god is controlling the mind of his human person, then surely that is cheating, isn’t it? a god creates a blocking mechanism before a sinful thought pops into his head, isn’t that cheating ? they say humans are original sin stained and yet humans STILL fight thier sinful thoughts to better themselves. why did the christian incarnate god inherit mary’s facial features but do his best in preventing his mind from inheriting the firsts mans sinful disobedience?

    they clearly distinguish BETWEEN the TWO minds. one mind must GROW in wisdom and another, according to them is divine mind. so why did the god part CHEAT?

  • Hi Ijaz
    Is God’s unconditional in the sense that in spite of who we and what we have done he loves us?

  • You Christians are so blind that the Light can’t get in.. John 3:16 is referring to his Unconditional love for his People…If you start at the Beginning of John 3 you find One Jew taking to another Jew. Christ tells him about being born again. Then He Goes Back into Israel’s History to help Nicodemus understand .. So now we are at John 14 and No mention of any other nation , you have a Jew Teacher talking to another Jew about a Gospel a Pertaining to them. I say them because while christ was alive his Gospel was to the Jews Only..

    John 15 goes into Israel history and verse 16 is were the confusion begins because pastors are erroneously teaching that “World” as in God so love the “world” that he gave his Only begotten son……Means All Man Kind. When World Never Means mankind. In John 3:16 WOrld” means Israel and Not All mankind.. I will prove it to using the Bible to any one who cars about the truth… But christ came to save Israel only.. Can others receive ever lasting Life .. Absolutely.. But they will live in their own nation and not in the Kingdom that God has in store for Israel

  • Hi rogeraking777

    Where do you get the understanding that ‘world’ means Israel?

    The bible says

    Luk 2:28    Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
    Luk 2:29    Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
    Luk 2:30    For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
    Luk 2:31    Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
    Luk 2:32    A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

    Who is going to lighten the Gentiles?

    Rom 2:8    But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
    Rom 2:9    Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
    Rom 2:10    But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
    Rom 2:11    For there is no respect of persons with God.

    2Pe 3:9    The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

    In this is verse who is the “any” and who is the “all” is it just Israel or the whole world.

    1Jn 2:2    And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

    What does…but also for the sins of the whole world mean?

    Mat 28:19    Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
    Mat 28:20    Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

    All nations is not just Israel is it?
