Did Paul Know he was Writing Scripture?

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ,

James White concedes that Paul had no idea that his words would eventually become to be seen and believed to be scripture. He says and I quote, “No, I don’t think Paul had to, be able to go when he was done writing Romans and he goes ooh, I definitely felt that one, it’s going into the canon“. Therefore according to James White, he merely repeats what Islamic scholarship has been saying for centuries, if Paul did not consider his own work to be scripture, why should we? Check out the video as assembled by Br. Muslim By Choice that takes James White to task over his contradicting position:

  • “if Paul did not consider his own work to be scripture, why should we?”

    Excellent point bro!

  • So James White agree’s with what Muslim ulama have been saying about Paul for centuries..really? James White holds Paul’s letters are scripture…is that what Muslim ulama hold to? …for centuries ? D.A.M.N is in full effect I see.

  • Well that’s strange, as an ex-Muslim I thought you would have known what Muslims believe in. That Paul’s writings were not scripture. Very odd you didn’t know this. Ignorance is bliss.

  • Hi IJaz
How do YOU know his writings are not scripture? On whose authority do you make these claims? I’d be interested to read your response.

  • Because he wrote and stated they were his words and not from God. In fact, he even wrote that he was under the influence of Satan and that Christ never took away this Satan from troubling him.

  • Hi Ijaz
Where did Paul say he was under the influence of Satan in writing scripture?

  • Did you read Paul’s Epistles? Do you really want a Muslim teaching you about your own scripture? Don’t tell me you don’t know this…

  • CL Edwards:*James White holds Paul’s letters are scripture*… The point made here was that PAUL didn’t consider that he was writing *sacred scripture* Something that was not done until years later when they were deciding which ones to be sacred out of all the writings. So the *author* himself didn’t consider his writings sacred scripture but others later did. I go with the author.. I don’t consider them sacred scripture. I take his opinion over yours.DT

  • Hi Doctortauheed
Where does Paul say his writings were not sacred scripture?

  • “Now concerning virgins: I have no commandment from the Lord; yet I give judgment …”(The Open Bible: 1 Corinthians 7:25, NKJV)

“I speak not by commandment, but I am testing the sincerity of your love by the diligence of others.”(The Open Bible: 2 Corinthians 8:8, NKJV)

Jesus says “A person who speaks on his own authority is trying to gain glory for himself.” (JOHN 7:16-18)

“What I am saying with this boastful confidence, I say not with the Lord’s authority but as a fool.” (2 Corinthians 11:17)

“But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.” (1 corinthians 7:12-14)

    There you go DC.

  • Hi Semsav 12
Let me help you Paul the apostle said all that he was saying was by the Holy Spirit.

1Co 7:40    But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.

  • defendchrist. how does that *help*, didn’t you read what semsav wrote? In 1 co 7:40 paul said he *THINKS* he has the holy spirit…didn’t he know? on semsav12s post paul was definite he DIDN’T! On your post he said he thinks! why would you take the unsure over the sure? ahh sorry I forgot.. you are a typical christian, grabbing at straws as usual. DT

  • The quote you posted DC did not at all equal what you claimed it did, that being “all that he was saying was by the Holy Spirit”, and EVEN if it did it just creates more problems! When he spoke as a fool was he speaking with the help of the Spirit? Paul explicitly said “HE” gave judgement. Since he gave Judgement of his own, without the Lord, then by the criteria set by Jesus, he is seeking his own Glory! If the christian scholar(s) are saying that Paul didn’t consider his own work to be scripture. so…

“if Paul did not consider his own work to be scripture, why should we?”
and if he considered his own opinion as sacred, then wouldn’t he be violating Jesus’s own critera that “A person who speaks on his own authority is trying to gain glory for himself”.

I’m not a typical Christian furthermore you guys have your own presupposition in regards to the word of God.
I wasn’t born a Christian in fact no one is born a Christian so there was a point in Time when I heard the message of the Prophet Muhammad and The Lord Jesus Christ and to be honest , there was nothing in Islam that convinced me that What I was listening to real.

For instance Jesus speaking from the cradle….infancy gospel of Thomas…problem.

Jesus as far as the koran is concerned is sinless yet in the same book that Jesus speaks from the cradle he also kills or should I say murders another young child for next to doing nothing.

How can I trust the writings of a book that says Jesus sinned and murdered at that, and so the problem with that is the Koranic verses are meant to come Allah in heaven right?

This is not the Jesus of the bible!

Then we have Jesus creating bird out of mud…infancy gospel of Thomas…problem.
It is the book written probably second century not a part of the canon for obvious reasons…but a part of the koran…

Muhammad was about 40 years old when he received his first revelation and it took about 23 years until it was complete. But here, as a newborn, Jesus supposedly already declares: “He has given me the Book…” That is past tense. When do you think that Jesus received his book? Has he received the Book while in the womb, before he was even born?

So in response to you I am not grabbing at straws….just facts.

  • defendchrist

There was nothing in your story of how you became a Christian “that convinced me that What I was listening to real (sic)” either.

Amusing as it was, I can’t help but notice that you have failed to answer the questions put to you by semsav12 and doctortauheed and instead prefer to conveniently speculate on a completely different and topic.
