Anti-Islam Movie Continues to be Shrouded in Mystery

The origins of the 13 minute ‘film’, continues to be shrouded in a great deal of mystery. From what we’ve established thus far,  is that Sam Bacile is a false name with a false identity, as seen on various news websites. See CBS News’The Atlantic News’ and Entertainment Weekly’s latest reports on the newest developments. However, the most striking news thus far is the deceit employed by the Coptic Christian director, as reported via Gawker:

Cindy Lee Garcia, an actress from Bakersfield, Calif., has a small role in the Muhammed movie as a woman whose young daughter is given to Muhammed to marry. But in a phone interview this afternoon, Garcia told us she had no idea she was participating in an offensive spoof on the life of Muhammed when she answered a casting call through an agency last summer and got the part.

The script she was given was titled simply Desert Warriors.

“It was going to be a film based on how things were 2,000 years ago,” Garcia said. “It wasn’t based on anything to do with religion, it was just on how things were run in Egypt. There wasn’t anything about Muhammed or Muslims or anything.”

In the script and during the shooting, nothing indicated the controversial nature of the final product, now called Muslim Innocence. Muhammed wasn’t even called Muhammed; he was “Master George,” Garcia said. The words Muhammed were dubbed over in post-production, as were essentially all other offensive references to Islam and Muhammed.

What’s also quite noticable to those of us who have watched the 13 minute ‘movie’, are the obvious dubbing of the names as reported  by ON THE MEDIA:

If you watch closely, you can see that when the actors are reading parts of the script that do not contain Islam-specific language, the audio from the sound stage is used (the audio that was recorded as the actors were simultaneously being filmed). But anytime the actors are referring to something specific to the religion (the Prophet Muhammed, the Quran, etc.) the audio recorded during filming is replaced with a poorly executed post-production dub. And if you look EVEN closer, you can see that the actors’ mouths are saying something other than what the dub is saying.

BUZZFEED’s Rosie Grey, has also noticed some peculiarities about the video itself:

As the video above — cut from the YouTube video tied to a global controversy — shows, nearly all of the names in the movie’s “trailer” — is a compilation of the most clumsily overdubbed moments from what is in reality an incoherent, haphazardly-edited set of scenes. Among the overdubbed words is “Mohammed,” suggesting that the footage was taken from a film about something else entirely. The footage also suggests multiple video sources — there are obvious and jarring discrepancies among actors and locations… whoever made (it) may well have made use of little more than the standard editing software Final Cut Pro — far from a cast and crew of over 100 and millions of dollars.

It’ll also be quite informative to read the Christian Science Monitor’s article on this issue as well. The only information we can be certain of thus far is of Morris Sadek’s involvement. Anything beyond that, inclusive of the director, producer, funding, origins are all a mystery. Stay tuned as more information continues to be produced in what is probably one of the single most odd events of the 21st century.

[UPDATED: x4]: New information from various news sources seem to indicate that Sam’s identity is most likely fraudulent. Why someone would be making such crazy accusations on such an internationally sensitive issue is beyond me. See CBS News’The Atlantic News’ and Entertainment Weekly’s latest reports on the newest developments.

[UPDATED: x3]: Sam Bacile continues to be pin pointed as the main culprit behind sparking the violence, see NBC News. Egypt’s government has aimed to take legal action against the film, see Reuters. Afghanistan has banned Youtube, temporarily because the film is now being downloaded and uploaded back to the website, see The Australian News. The Global Post has an insightful article, documenting the condemnation of the attacks by the Libyan and Egyptian people, the attacks are being blamed on a fringe of extremist groups.

[UPDATED]: Various scholars, lecturers and Islamic personalities have come out in condemnation of the killings and violent protests. You can read their statements here.

Following our report on Morris Sadek (located here) and our call to action for the video to be removed (located here), new information has arisen that Sam Bacile, an Israeli – American colluded with Morris Sadek to have the video made. The report from the Huffington Post states:

Speaking by phone Tuesday from an undisclosed location, writer and director Sam Bacile remained defiant, saying Islam is a cancer and that the 56-year-old intended his film to be a provocative political statement condemning the religion.

“This is a political movie,” said Bacile. “The U.S. lost a lot of money and a lot of people in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we’re fighting with ideas.”

Bacile, a California real estate developer who identifies himself as an Israeli Jew, said he believes the movie will help his native land by exposing Islam’s flaws to the world.

“Islam is a cancer, period,” he said repeatedly, his solemn voice thickly accented.

The two-hour movie, “Innocence of Muslims,” cost $5 million to make and was financed with the help of more than 100 Jewish donors, said Bacile, who wrote and directed it.
