David Wood: Deceiver, Abomination – According to YHWH

David Wood the Voyeur Wearing Women's Lingerie - Self Admitted Cross Dresser

David Wood the Voyeur Wearing Women’s Lingerie – Self Admitted Cross Dresser

The Bible from YHWH describes the cross dresser as :

“A woman shall not wear a man’s garment, nor shall a man put on a woman’s cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God.” – Deuteronomy 22:5.

In as much as David attempts to chastise Islam, he chooses to mock Islam by breaking the laws of YHWH. Surely, there is a moral issue in regard to such behaviour. Can David Wood justify breaking the laws of YHWH so that he could mock another faith? So blinded by disdain for Islam is he, that David is willing to sin against YHWH by becoming an abomination in his own God’s sight. As a Muslim, I am not trying to insult David, but how can he invite me to Christianity, when even he doesn’t obey the laws of the God that he wants me to worship? Foregoing the theological problems, the textual issues and the inconsistent logic of that faith. If I were to look at Christianity as David Wood has presented it, then I would have no choice but to believe that the ‘best examples from among the preachers‘ of that faith do not care about that God enough to obey His commands. That in itself demonstrates the weakest forms of belief (hypocrisy).

Let’s say I forget his cross dressing and that YHWH calls David Wood an abomination. What about the man who lies and engages in public deceit?

cc-2013-davidwoodlying

I am sure that lying and promoting deceit (even as a joke) is a sin. Let’s see what YHWH (the God of David says) about such an act:

  • Leviticus 19:11, “You shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.”

Clearly YHWH says not to do it, so what possible justification can David have for doing it? Did YHWH forget to put, ‘as a joke’ as an addendum to that particular passage?

  • Psalms 119:163, “I hate and abhor lying: but your law do I love.”

If David wants to assume the persona of his namesake, shouldn’t he try to embody the practise of hating and abhorring lying, instead of practising it? Worse yet, what kind of a man blames his wife for his own public indecencies, surely insulting his wife is against his religion?

  • Proverbs 12:22, “Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.”

Not only is David an abomination for cross dressing, he’s also an abomination for lying! This is once again from the Bible, not from any Islamic texts.

  • Proverbs 13:5, “A righteous man hates lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and comes to shame.”

David Wood is apparently willing to forego being a righteous man to obey his wife over YHWH. Apparently obeying his wife (for whom he blames his deceit on – quite the gentleman) is greater than obeying the God that he calls me to worship.

  • Proverbs 14:5,  “A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.”

This verse is quite clear, David is not a faithful witness to the God he calls us to worship, he is in fact a false witness according to the Bible. Since this is the case, we Muslims have no reason to believe any of the things he says because he is a de facto false witness in the eyes of his Lord.

Lastly, the Bible declares that a liar does not know the truth about Christ:

“I say the truth in Christ, I lie not“. – Romans 9:1.

Clearly, from this verse, we understand that David, if he knew the truth about Christ, he would have no need to lie. Since he has the need to lie, then logically speaking, the opposite is true. He has to lie because he does not know the truth about Christ. In conclusion, from his apparent public acts we can conclude that David Wood according to YHWH is an abomination for cross dressing, an abomination for lying, a false witness of Christ, an unrighteous man and he does not say the truth about Christ. Will David reply to this? Most likely not because he can’t defend hating YHWH and His laws. Atleast now he has exposed himself as nothing short of  being a hypocrite.

Bookish Ignorance

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ,

While reading Mortimer Adler’s, “How to Read a Book”, I came across a paragraph that struck me as nothing short of pure brilliance.

cc-2013-bookish

The one person who immediately came to my mind was James White of Alpha and Omega Ministries. In as much as he tries to appear to be well read, his ignorance of Islamic theology, scripture and study is quite apparent to the most basically of educated Muslims. It’s ironic because in his videos he stands in front of what appears to be a library of books. The same can be said for the AI and AM teams. What I’ve taken from this book and especially this quote is despite people owning books and having read them, it does not make this person educated and surely in the cases of the men and groups I’ve mentioned previously, this is surely the reality of their situation(s).

David Wood Claims the Bible Contains ‘Repulsive Morality’

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ,

The self-delusional internet cross dresser, David Wood (see the below picture) has claimed that the Islamic concept of ‘blood money’, where the family of a victim of a crime can choose to accept a certain sum of payment as restitution for the crime is ‘repulsive morality‘.

David Wood the Voyeur Wearing Women's Lingerie - Self Admitted Cross Dresser

David Wood the Voyeur Wearing Women’s Lingerie – Self Admitted Cross Dresser

He says and I quote:

“…should he continue to walk the streets, so long as the families of his victims accept the blood-money? Should the rich be allowed to kill as much as they like? This is the policy that you’re defending? And do you think that our country would be better if we adopted such a repulsive morality?”

Yet, YHWH, David’s Lord, God and Saviour, accepts the same form of legal precedence in the Bible! I wonder if the cross dresser ever thought of reading the book he claims to believe in? In the Bible, it is often dumbed down to refer to such a payment as a guilt offering. The Bible says in Leviticus 5:14-19:

The Lord said to Moses15 “When anyone is unfaithful to the Lord by sinning unintentionally in regard to any of the Lord’s holy things, they are to bring to the Lord as a penalty a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value in silver, according to the sanctuary shekel. It is a guilt offering16 They must make restitution for what they have failed to do in regard to the holy things, pay an additional penalty of a fifth of its value and give it all to the priest. The priest will make atonement for them with the ram as a guilt offering, and they will be forgiven.

17 If anyone sins and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord’s commands, even though they do not know it, they are guilty and will be held responsible18 They are to bring to the priest as a guilt offering a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value. In this way the priest will make atonement for them for the wrong they have committed unintentionally, and they will be forgiven. 19 It is a guilt offering; they have been guilty of  wrongdoing against the Lord.

Now I truly wonder, is one of the Lord’s commands not to commit murder David? If that’s the case, if you kill someone unintentionally, then all you have to do is pay the blood money to YHWH and his Priests and you’re forgiven! Halellujah! Is this the kind of ‘repulsive morality’ you meant to mock Islam with, but which is significantly worse in your own scripture?

A Rejoinder to Sam Shamoun: Christian Fans on Editing of Debate Videos

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ,

Recently the foul mouthed missionary zealot, Sam Shamoun attempted to bully me through verbal abuse during an audio discussion. Unfortunately for Sam Shamoun, his tactics backfired and brought sincere Christians to begin communications with Calling Christians. In light of the discussion, Sam Shamoun then ordered his congregational minion/ audio recorder to post an edited version of our discussion. In Sam’s edited version, his comments are moved about, some of his insults are deleted and a portion of my rebuttal to his inane ranting was removed. Many Christians defended this and praised Sam for doing this on the Youtube video page of our discussion. Yet in typical Christian hypocrisy, on David Wood’s blog, that is Sam Shamoun’s debating partner, a strange thing occurred. As it turns out the Christian Samuel Green and Br. Imran of IREF had a debate. According to Samuel Green, IREF edited portions of the debate in light of the audience’s reaction to certain points but no speaking material was changed, just audience shots. These same Christians who were applauding and accepting Sam’s edit of our discussion, are now crying foul and claiming any edit is dishonest, abhorrent and distasteful.

cc-samedit

Isn’t that hilarious? The nature of these Christians in Sam/ David’s congregation are completely hypocritical. Apparently, it’s okay for a Christian speaker to edit and manipulate a debate’s content, but to skip audience pan shots is tantamount to ‘promoting bias‘, ‘dishonest‘, ‘it makes a big difference‘, ‘influencing the meaning the author intended‘, ‘costs them the benefit of doubt‘, etc. It’s important for us Muslims to note the kind of missionaries we are dealing with. They are dirty, underhanded, deceitful and shameless. Most importantly, ‘people‘ like these will cry foul and claim victimization whenever they can to achieve emotional tendencies. Thankfully, us Muslims are not of the ilk that Sam Shamoun, et al are like. We are commanded to practise integrity and to remain on the path of righteousness and we most certainly do not need to be perverted in our speech or actions as they need to be.

Culture of Pornography

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ,

The Telegraph (UK – News) posted a very disturbing article recently concerning the ‘culture of porn’ in the world among the youth today. According to the report, it states:

“Never before has girlhood been under such a sustained assault – from ads, alcohol marketing, girls’ magazines, sexually explicit TV programmes and the hard pornography that is regularly accessed in so many teenager’s bedrooms,” says the psychologist Steve Biddulph, currently touring the country to promote a book called Raising Girls.

It is a follow-up to his best-seller Raising Boys – and they are under pressure too, being led to believe that girls will look and behave like porn stars. Our children are becoming victims of pornification.

I suggest that a more thorough read of the article is taken to grasp the full implications of the epidemic. Many usually condemn Islam for its strict laws on gender segregation, but as it turns out, Christian majority nations like the UK and the US are now facing serious issues with a porn enforced cultural heritage for their youth populations. The Qur’aan says concerning women:

“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, headcover, apron), and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of feminine sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allaah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful” – [al-Noor 24:31]

“And as for women past childbearing who do not expect wedlock, it is no sin on them if they discard their (outer) clothing in such a way as not to show their adornment. But to refrain (i.e. not to discard their outer clothing) is better for them. And Allaah is All‑Hearer, All‑Knower” – [al-Noor 24:60]

Thus, Islam is clear on gender segregation and the importance of both men and women having to shield their bodies from one another. Unfortunately for Christians, there is no such verse or commandment in the New Testament concerning the hijab (covering) of women.  However, that would be a lie, as there is such a verse:

“But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved.” – 1 Corinthians 11:5.

The famed Christian commentary, Barne’s Notes on the Bible explicitly states that this verse refers to the wearing of the hijab:

“With her head uncovered – That is, with the veil removed which she usually wore. It would seem from this that the women removed their veils, and wore their hair disheveled, when they pretended to be under the influence of divine inspiration. This was the case with the pagan priestesses; and in so doing, the Christian women imitated them. On this account, if on no other, Paul declares the impropriety of this conduct. It was, besides, a custom among ancient females, and one that was strictly enjoined by the traditional laws of the Jews, that a woman should not appear in public unless she were veiled. See this proved by Lightfoot in loco.”

Yet Christians are vehemently opposed to the hijab. So traumatic is the concept of wearing a hijab that when Mrs. Obama (the first lady) donned one, David Wood of the Answering Muslims blog blew a fuse and attacked her:

“Since the First Lady of the free world is now wearing a hijab so as not to offend Muslims, I’m wondering if she’s willing to go even further. Some Muslims will be offended unless Mrs. Obama wears a full burka, so she should probably order one if she doesn’t already have one. She’d better make sure she lowers her gaze in the presence of men, and she’d better not object to sex with Barack, since he’s now free to beat her if she gets out of line. Of course, she should now be fine with Barack marrying three other women (or three prepubescent girls), since Islam allows this. Someone should probably inform her that she is now officially half as intelligent as a man.”

Observe the rationale of David Wood’s perverted and sadistic mind. He links the hijab with women’s abuse and sex with prepubescent girls (both of which the Qur’aan and Islam outlaw). If David Wood is a conservative Christian as he claims to be, then shouldn’t he rejoice at the fact that Biblical belief about the hijab is being followed? In fact, David’s reaction is in line with statistics coming out of America’s Bible Belt. As it turns out, David is not the only Christian who detests when women have modesty:

While Texas may be perceived as a highly religious and conservative stronghold, deep in the heart of the Bible Belt, it’s beat out only by California, and Florida is a close 3rd in the number of adults actively looking for sex on the internet.

Are we making this up? Now way!

These revealing numbers are reported by one of the largest adult web sites on the internet. The numbers will really surprise you…

If you don’t already know, Adult Friend Finder is the largest sex and swinger personals web site on the internet today with 22,319,717 members. That’s almost identical to the population of Texas which is 23,507,783. Hmmm… That’s a lot of people on just this one website.

What is a sex and swinger personals web site? Well, it’s basically a dating site for singles and couples looking for sex. What many people don’t realize is that Adult Friend Finder gets more visitors every day than Match.com and eHarmony put together!

That’s no big surprise. But what IS a surprise is that Texas is ranked #2 in the number of subscribers to this web site.

Here is the state by state breakdown of the top sex enthusiasts in the U.S., according to Adult Friend Finder:

* California – 1.2 million (That’s 3.3% of the state population)
* Texas – 800,000 (That’s 3.4% of the state population)
* Florida – 743,000 (That’s 4.1% of the state population)
* New York – 660,000 (That’s 3.4% of the state population)
* Illinois – 429,000 (That’s 3.3% of the state population)

Wow, what’s truly amazing here is that Texas – the heart of the Bible Belt – is #2 in all of the U.S. with a larger percentage of the population subscribing than California!

Is Texas shedding it’s ultra conservative facade? Or will the truth remain buried behind closed doors with faceless pictures on the top sex personals sites like Adult Friend Finder? – Source.

Therefore, the conclusion is clear. While Islam calls for morality and shuns pornography (which degrades both men and women), the team at Answering Muslims and at Answering Islam both have a significant issue with women covering themselves. It’s very interesting to note that while Islam calls to modesty and to chastity, our opponents call for more nudity and thus have created a culture of pornography. This habit of claiming that the hijab oppresses and thus women should be free to ‘uncover’ themselves has caused such a ideology to be indoctrinated into the youth of Christian majority nations that we’ve reached the point where there is a ‘culture of pornography’. Children are filming sex acts amongst themselves in growing numbers, many of them being forced by their peers. Yet, while this is ongoing, morally bankrupt Christians such as Robert Spence, David Wood and Sam Shamoun rather attack the one religion that wants to save their kids from becoming victims of a culture of sexual abuse which they themselves encourage.

Refutation: Refuting Shabir Ally on the Preservation of the Bible

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ,

In a recent showing of, ‘The Jesus or Muhammad Show‘ (there’s no either or, we love and follow both as Muslims), David Wood and Pastor Joseph tried very comically to demonstrate that the Qur’an validates the Bible. As a Muslim who is familiar with Christian deception and missionary work, within 1 minute and 41 seconds I had no choice but to feel embarrassed for the show’s hosts who were clearly arguing beyond their means. They quoted the Qur’an which says:

“Say, “We have believed in Allah and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [submitting] to Him.” – Qur’aan 3:84.

Here’s a quick question for the self proclaimed ‘Pastor’ and the Muslim phobic David Wood, the very verse you used states that a scripture was given to Jesus. This is what we believe, that a scripture was given to Jesus, not in a ‘scripture’ which was authored decades later which eventually through the Ecumenical Council of Carthage in 397 CE was deemed to be ‘scripture’. They progressed to mention (without evidence) that the Qur’an does the following:

  • Confirms the Inspiration of the Bible.
  • Denies the Preservation of the Bible.
  • Denies the Authority of the Bible.

The problem with this is that the Qur’an actually:

  • Confirms the Inspiration of the Injil to Jesus.
  • Confirms that God’s word is not changed but that men wrote other words and then claimed it to be God’s (2:79).
  • Confirms the Authority of the Inspired Scripture revealed to Jesus known as the Injil.

They confused themselves by thinking that what the verse speaks of is the New Testament, but no Christian in his right mind (for David and his Pastor could be differently minded) believes that the New Testament originated with Jesus and was sent to Jesus from God in a complete rendition. Therefore Muslims and Christians are referring to two distinct scriptures where one originates with Christ and where one is alluded to Christ decades after by unknown scribes with unknown authority. As for when we say we make no distinction between the scriptures, we mean that we do not distinguish between God’s revelations. Since Christians confirm that the New Testament did not originate during Christ’s time, then it is an explicit acknowledgement that it is not what Allaah revealed to Christ, thus we can distinguish it as non-canonical ‘scripture’ to Muslims and as a consequence, it cannot be considered to be inspired by Allaah.

They then went on to quote the following ayats:

“He has sent down upon you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming what was before it. And He revealed the Torah and the Gospel. Before, as guidance for the people. And He revealed the Qur’an. Indeed, those who disbelieve in the verses of Allah will have a severe punishment, and Allah is exalted in Might, the Owner of Retribution.” – Qur’an 3:3-4.

David then said that we believe in the inspiration, but not the preservation or authority of the New Testament due to the above verse. The problem with this egregious thinking as I outlined above is that we Muslims make a distinction to what was physically in Jesus’ hand as a scripture, versus something written decades after and validated only in 4th century CE. Therefore we affirm God’s inspiration of scripture, preservation of scripture and authority, we however do not affirm that God inspired the New Testament which did not exist at Jesus’ time. David then presents what he claims to be the ‘Muslim reasoning’:

  1. The Qur’aan confirms the inspiration of the Christian scriptures.
  2. Muslims open the Bible, realise it doesn’t line up with the Qur’aan and then claim corruption.

Let me correct David’s infantile simplification, rather we believe:

  1. The Qur’aan confirms the inspiration and revelation of a scripture given to Christ Jesus.
  2. The Qur’aan does not confirm the inspiration of a scripture written decades after Jesus and validated in a 4th century Catholic Council.

After all, David himself knows that he cannot validate his claims without first and foremost, significantly misrepresenting the Muslim position, how else would he make money? In further deluding himself, he references another ayah of the Qur’aan:

“Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find written in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel, who enjoins upon them what is right and forbids them what is wrong and makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits for them the evil and relieves them of their burden and the shackles which were upon them. So they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him – it is those who will be the successful.” – Qur’aan 7:157.

David’s argument is that this verse refers to the Christians and Jews of Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) time and it implies that the current Bible is what would have existed at that time. The problem with this thinking is that not all Christians at his time, nor all Jews would follow the same Soteriology, Christology or scripture.  For David to claim that the same ‘scripture’ was used by Arabian Jews and Christians, would have to mean that he has some explicit, empirical evidence for what the Christians and Jews in Arabia would have used as scripture. Since he does not, then he is simply appealing to wishful thinking. A simple example from before Jesus’ time and sometime after, would be the scrolls of the Jerusalem Jews versus that of the Essenes in Qumran. Both are Jews, but the Essenes had a radically different corpus of scrolls such as the War Scroll, the Community Rule, the Rule of Blessing and the Pesher on Habbakuk. We also know that Christians themselves had different canons and codices, one of the easiest examples is the 7 Deutero-canonical books of the Catholics. Therefore, who is to say that all Christians and Jews had the same scripture? This is wishful thinking and not based on scholarly research or study. They then progressed to another verse which reads:

So if (فَإِن) you are in doubt, [O Muhammad], about that which We have revealed to you, then ask those who have been reading the Scripture before you. The truth has certainly come to you from your Lord, so never be among the doubters.” – Qur’aan 10:94.

David begins his rabid diatribe by claiming that Muhammad (peace be upon is having doubts), the problem with this is that David’s Church has not taught him how to read properly. The verse begins with saying “So if“, thus, it is not a declaration of doubt, rather it is a choice, an option. For example what if I said:

“If David was sexually abused by Pastor Joseph…”

Does this mean I am claiming with absolute certainty that David was sexually abused? According to David, the answer to this would be yes. Since this is the case, I personally am taking this opportunity to implore David to take up a reading and comprehension course at any vocational school, as his Church study seems to have rendered him deficient in the mind. David goes on to present a false dichotomy, he says there are only two views, either the revelation of the Christ has been corrupted or it hasn’t. Well it’s neither of those options as the Qur’aan in 10:94 is not referring to what was written by unknown Greek men decades after Jesus, but what was given to Jesus himself. Therefore David’s dichotomy is both irrelevant and nonsensical.

David then switches gears to claim once again that when the Qur’aan refers to the Torah and Injil (Gospel), that it is referring to the present Christian and Jewish writings, as a consequence the Jewish Bible and the Christian New Testament have therefore, never been altered. He used the following quote to ‘validate’ his claim:

“And recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord. There is no changer of His words, and never will you find in other than Him a refuge.” – Qur’aan 18:27.

To correct David, the verse is not referring to the Jewish Old Testament written some 3000 years after Moses as is presented in the current oldest codex known as the Qumran scrolls as written by the Essenes, nor is it referring to the earliest Christian codices as is presented in Codices Sinaiticus and Vaticanus, some 4 centuries after Christ. Rather, as I have said before and as I would say again, this verse is speaking in relation to the books revealed directly to Moses and Jesus the Christ, not to the renditions of ‘scripture’ presented to us, yet are dated to be centuries after both personalities. He went on to mention one of Sam’s argument where the Qur’aan mentions ‘what is between his hands‘, Christians fondly misinterpret this to mean it is referring to the previous scriptures:

And We descended to you The Book with the truth, confirming to WHAT (IS) BETWEEN HIS HANDS from The Book (musaddiqan lima bayna yadayhi)

Initially the ayat says that Allaah sent a book to Muhammad {saw}, a revelation. This revelation is confirming what is between Muhammad’s {saw} hands [The Qur’aan] from the previous revelation [Injil]. Since David is a bit dense, I shall break this down step by step for him:

(1) Allaah says He revealed scripture to Muhammad {saw}.
(2) He says this scripture, that He has revealed which Muhammad {saw} has (presently) in his hands (possession – the Qur’aan) confirms the previous scripture.
(3) The previous scripture’s message is confirmed in what is in Muhammad’s {saw} book now, (1) – the Qur’aan.

Notice his provided translation says what is between his hands from the book. The ayat presents the case of two books being revealed, but one is presently in the hands of Muhammad {saw} and that is the one Allaah has revealed. This book presently in Muhammad’s {saw} hands confirm what was from the book, previously revealed. Let’s see what Shaykh Rafi Uthmani [db] had to say on this ayat:

In the fifth (48) and sixth (49) verse, the address is to the Holy Prophet Muhammad {saw} saying that to him Allaah has revealed the Qur’aan which confirms the Torah and Injil, Books previous to it, and is their custodian as well. This is because, after the people of the Torah altered the Torah and the people of the Injil made changes in the Injil, it was the Qur’an alone which turned out to be the overseer and protector which exposed the alterations made by them, lit up truth and reality in their proper persepctive. Even today, the true teachings of the Torah and Injil still survive through the Qur’aan, while those who inherited them and those who claim to follow them have disfigured them to the extent that it has become impossible to distinguish truth from untruth. – Tafsir Maar’iful Qur’aan, Mufti Rafi Uthman, page 181.

To make sense of David’s argument, if we take his understanding into consideration we get the following:

(1) Allaah has revealed a book to Muhammad {saw}.
(2) Forget (1) for now.
(3) The book in your hands, which is not (1) confirms…
(4) What was from another book previously revealed.

So then, the question begs itself, if it’s confirming a previous scripture (لِمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ – that which preceded it), then what currently is in Muhammad’s {saw} hands? What is in his hands now that’s confirming the previous revelation? David is saying the answer to this, is the previous revelation. If that makes no senseto you, as much as it does to us, then we’re on the right track. How exactly can the verse be saying that God has presently sent confirmation and that the confirmation He has sent is currently in Muhammad’s {saw} hands but the confirmation is the previous scripturenot the scripture God currently revealed to Muhammad {saw}? That leads us into a circular argument, more academically, to the fallacy of circular thinking:

David is saying the previous revelation is the book in Muhammad’s {saw} hands and it refers to itself as a previous revelation being confirmed by God.

How exactly David, is the previous revelation referring to itself as “previous”, shouldn’t it be…..current? Shouldn’t it, logically speaking, refer to itself as the current revelation to make complete sense of the ayat? Essentially, his argument is based upon a world play upon the word study fallacy and does not it into the context of the ayat (verse). The explanation which he proposes ignores rational thought, edifies non-sequitur arguments, i.e. it does not logically follow through, to be true. They then progressed to another misinterpreted verse:

And let the People of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed therein. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed – then it is those who are the defiantly disobedient.” – Qur’aan 5:47.

This once again needs to be contextualised with the verse directly preceding it, which reads:

“And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel, in which was guidance and light and confirming that which preceded it of the Torah as guidance and instruction for the righteous.” – Qur’aan 5:46.

The Qur’aan is telling the Christians to follow the law as given to Jesus. Not to follow a corpus of writings originating decades after the man himself. In addition to this, what did Allaah ask them to judge by? What judgement was He referring to? In the verse directly preceding the aforementioned verses we are told what exactly it is, He was commanding the people of the Gospel to judge by what Allaah revealed and not to judge by their whims and fancies, in reference to the law of Qisas:

“And We ordained for them therein a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth, and for wounds is legal retribution. But whoever gives [up his right as] charity, it is an expiation for him. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed – then it is those who are the wrongdoers.” – Qur’aan 5:45.

If David wanted to be honest, and if he wanted to present an accurate study of what the verse was saying, then all he had to do was read the verses directly preceding the one he quoted (5:47), rather he isolated a verse and wholly misrepresented it to delude himself and the 5 people that tune in to watch his ranting and raving.  David and Pastor Joseph then stated the following:

  • We have the text that was before Muhammad (peace be upon him), during his time and the text which was after him, thus 5:47 must be referring to the Bible we as Christians have today.

The problem with this, is that the Qur’aan in 5:47 tells the Christians to judge by what God revealed and then God mentioned what He revealed in 5:46 and 5:45, which was the law of Qisas. Since this is the case, for the New Testament to be what 5:47 was referring to, then it must contain the law of Qisas as is found in 5:45, since it does not and by using the logical law methodology of proof by contradiction, the New Testament cannot be considered to be what 5:47 was referring to. A simple counter example would be to ask David and Pastor Joseph if 2 Timothy 3:16 includes in its intended scope the 7 Deutero-canonical books of the Catholics and the Community Scroll of the Essenes. If not, then David and Joseph are not being honest and fair with their interpretation and study of the Qur’aanic ayat and have thus conceded to abusing the true meaning of the verses presented.

Lastly, David runs to misinterpret another verse in a mad dash to establish some credibility in hopes of conveying his perverse message:

“Say, “O People of the Scripture, you are [standing] on nothing until you uphold [the law of] the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to you from your Lord.” And that which has been revealed to you from your Lord will surely increase many of them in transgression and disbelief. So do not grieve over the disbelieving people.” – Qur’aan 5:68.

This ayah in particular follows the same formula as the one above, we must read the preceding verse which states:

“O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people. Indeed, Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.” – Qur’aan 5:67.

Verse 68 is commanding Jews and Christians to follow the Torah and the Gospel by following what was revealed to Muhammad (peace be upon him)! The verse is simply saying that if the Christians and the Jews who want to uphold the Torah and the Gospel, then they can only do so by following the Qur’aan. This verse does not validate the Bible as the Christians and Jews developed after Moses and Jesus respectively. Rather it is referring to the scriptures given to Moses and Jesus directly and since both Christians and Jews do not possess any of the above, it is therefore wishful thinking and confirmation bias to read into the Qur’aan their rendition of scripture, as opposed to what those two great and mighty Prophets of Allaah possessed.

In some parting advice for David and Joseph, in as much as you want to pervert the Qur’aan with your inane rants, know that us Muslims are far more educated in what you hope to use against us and that any arguments you can bring forth can be easily dismissed and corrected.

Review: Jesus the Christ, Man, God or Both? – Ijaz Ahmad vs CL Edwards

Jesus the Christ, Man, God or Both? – Ijaz Ahmad vs CL Edwards

A Review of the Debate by Paul Williams

Ahmad’s opening statement threw down the gauntlet:

‘If we are to be fair and objective in our study of who the Messiah was, then we can’t work backwards, that is to start with the bias we already have and then look at the previous scriptures to justify our claims and beliefs. This is a form of revisionism.‘

He has in mind here a favourite methodology adopted by Christians: that of reading into Jewish texts their own later beliefs about Jesus. Scholars call this practice ‘eisegesis’.

Though Ahmad did not mention well known Christian apologist Dr Craig in his opening presentation, he could have called him as a witness for his defense as Dr. William Lane Craig would agree with him! Though Craig’s comments focus on Jesus’ alleged death and resurrection, they perfectly demonstrate how Christians read back into the Jewish Bible beliefs that no Jew ever held about their Messiah.

Craig writes:

‘Early Christians were convinced that Jesus’ resurrection, like his crucifixion, was, in the words of the old tradition quoted by Paul in 1 Corinthians 15. 3-5, “in accordance with the Scriptures.” In Luke’s story of Jesus’ appearance on the road to Emmaus, the risen Jesus chastises the two travelers: ” ‘Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and enter into his glory?’ And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself” (Luke 24. 26-27).

The difficulty is that when we ask, “What Scriptures are they thinking of?”, we come up with sparse results. Hosea 6.2 ‘ “After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him” – has been suggested because it mentions the “third day” motif found in the old formula cited by Paul.

But Hosea 6.2 is never explicitly cited by any New Testament author, much less applied to Jesus’ resurrection. In the apostolic sermons in the Acts of the Apostles, we find Psalm 16.10 interpreted in terms of Jesus’ resurrection: “For thou dost not give me up to Sheol, or let thy godly one see the Pit.” But if we look at the principal Old Testament passage cited in the Gospels with respect to Jesus’ resurrection, we find the story of Jonah and the whale. “For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth” (Matthew 12.40).

Now the problem for the theory in question is that nobody, especially a first century Jew, reading the story of Jonah and the whale would think that this has anything whatsoever to do with Jesus’ burial and resurrection! Similarly for Psalm 16.10; this has to do with David’s confidence that God will not allow him to see defeat and death. And as for Hosea 6.2, this has nothing to do with resurrection of the dead but with the restoration of the national fortunes of Israel.

The point is that no one who did not already have a belief in Jesus’ resurrection would find in these Scriptures any impetus to think that Jesus had been raised from the dead. To this we may add the fact that in Jewish belief the resurrection of the dead was always an event at the end of the world involving all the people, an event which obviously had not yet taken place.

Once the disciples came to believe in Jesus’ resurrection, then they could go to the Scriptures looking for verses to validate their belief and experience, and passages like Jonah and the whale and Psalm 16.10 could be re-interpreted in light of Jesus’ resurrection. But to think that the belief in Jesus’ resurrection was derived from the Old Testament is to put the cart before the horse; it gets things exactly backwards.’

***

What a stunning admission by Craig! At a stroke all those much vaunted “prophesies” in the OT about Jesus the Messiah turn out to be entirely absent from the Jewish Bible and can only be ‘discovered’ there if you artificially graft Christian beliefs onto the texts, in disregard of the original context and original meaning of the passages. But this is the standard ‘orthodox’ way Christians use the Bible to justify their beliefs.

Ahmad convincingly demonstrates that the Jewish Messiah was never considered to be divine or God at any time but was always expected to be only a man like other mortals.

Therefore the Christian belief in a Divine Messiah is unJewish and alien to the Torah. The final Prophet to mankind Muhammad (pbuh) was sent to correct these blasphemous excesses by Christians. Today 1.6 billion of his followers have learnt this lesson well.

A few comments on the opening statement by CL Edwards

Edwards boldly states:

After seriously studying the first century evidences concerning Christ, while being logically consistent, I had to change my position, and I now hold to the hypostatic union i.e the belief  Jesus had two natures. There is no historical proof anyone during this time held Jesus to be just a man.

He might need change his position once more as scholars have long realized that the earliest Christians did not believe Jesus was divine. Read Peter’s sermons in Acts and ask yourself did he consider Jesus to be God (see Acts 2:22 & 2:36 for example)? Read Mark’s gospel: Jesus prays to God; is ignorant about various matters; denies he is ”good”;  feels abandoned by God on the cross. Does such a man seem like God in the flesh to you?

Much of Edwards presentation is simply a list of proof texts culled from the Bible. He does not show any critical awareness of how Christology developed in the New Testament, and just how radically different Mark’s gospel is from John’s gospel in its portrayal of Jesus.

As every undergraduate in Bible studies knows, it is clear that there has been a development in the way Jesus is presented in the pages of the New Testament. Look at the earliest gospel to be written, that of Mark.

This shows us a very human figure. Here are 7 examples:

1) Jesus is a man who prays to God (1:35)

2) Jesus is unable to work miracles in his own town (6:5) – but see Matthew’s redaction of Mark in 13:57-58.

3) Jesus confesses his ignorance about the date of the End of the world (13:32).

4) Jesus did not know the identity of a woman who touched him and had to ask his   disciples for help (Mark 5:30) – but see Matthew’s redaction in 9:20-21.

5) Jesus was so irritated by the absence of figs he cursed a fig tree even though it was not the season for figs (Mark 11:14) – but see Matthew’s redaction in 21:18-22.

6) Jesus even denies that he is perfectly good (Mark 10) – but see Matthew’s redaction of Mark in 19:17.

7) Mark portrays Jesus despairing of God’s help at the crucifixion as he cries: ‘My God my God why have you abandoned me?’ (15:34) – Luke and John both omit this.

So it seems clear that in the earliest gospel Jesus does not exhibit any of the attributes of God that Jews, Christians and Muslims commonly accept: unlike God, Jesus is not all knowing; he is not omnipotent; he is not perfectly good; he is not eternal; he is notimmortal; he is not unchanging. Therefore it seems obvious that he cannot be God.

If we read the last of the four gospels to be written, the gospel of John, we move into a different world. Here Jesus seems to move effortlessly through his ministry, he is clearly portrayed as a divine figure, indeed as “God” himself.

Instead of Jesus saying in Mark’s gospel “Why do you call me good – no-one is good but God alone”, John has Jesus say: ‘Before Abraham was I am’.

In the very first chapter of the gospel according to John, the Prophet John the Baptist proclaims Jesus to be ‘The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world’ when he first meets him.  But in the earlier synoptic gospels, John the Baptist not only does not say this but half way through Jesus’ ministry sends messengers to Jesus asking “Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?” (Matthew 11:2)

So even this brief survey has shown the enormous evolution of the story of Jesus which occurred in less than two generations after Jesus was taken up by God.

Unlike in the earlier gospels of Mark, Matthew and Luke, in John Jesus speaks with a clear awareness of his divine existence with God from before his time on earth (5.19ff and 8.12ff make this clear). But the question cannot be ducked: whether the Jesus of the fourth gospel was intended to be historical, whether Jesus of Nazareth actually spoke in the terms used by John. Were the claims about Jesus in John’s gospel already in place from the beginning of Christianity? It seems hardly likely.

Few scholars today would regard John as a source for information regarding Jesus’ life and ministry in any degree comparable to the Synoptics gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. It is worth noting briefly the reasons why scholars think this:

One is the very different picture of Jesus’ ministry, both in the order and the significance of events and the location of Jesus’ ministry. For example, the cleansing of the temple happens at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry in John but occurs at the end of Jesus’ ministry in the synoptic gospels. A clear contradiction.

Another is the striking difference in Jesus’ style of speaking – much more discursive and theological in John, in contrast to the aphoristic and parabolic style of the Synoptic gospels. Jesus’ way of speaking is the same, whether Jesus speaks to Nicodemus, or to the woman at the well, or to his disciples, and very similar to the style of John the Baptist, and indeed very similar to the 1st Letter of John. The conclusion is unavoidable that the style is that of the author of the gospel of John rather than that of Jesus himself.

Probably most important of all, in the synoptic gospels Jesus’ main message is the Kingdom of God and he rarely speaks of himself, whereas in John the Kingdom of God hardly features and the discourses are largely about Jesus’ own self-consciousness andself proclamation. To put it simply, in the earlier gospels Jesus does not preach about himself but God and his kingdom. In John, Jesus speaks about himself and his Father. Had the striking ‘I am’ claims of John been remembered as spoken by Jesus, how could any gospel writer have ignored them so completely as the Synoptics gospels do?

In conclusionEdwards could benefit from an introductory course in New Testament studies to bring him up to speed with what his own scholars are teaching!

Christian Missionaries on Facebook

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ,

I found this conversation between a Muslim male and an Evangelical Christian on Facebook. One of them is preaching to the other, I’m sure it was one sided, but the abuses contained within are shocking to say the least.

2 Facebook-083422

To my Muslim brother, I say stay strong, the more this Christian shows the true intents of his religion, the more us Muslims will be able to understand that they do not love us. They hate us and they hate us with a passion. I am sorry that you had to ensure such abuse from a ‘soldier of Christ’, but this is the fruit of Pastor Isang, an ally of ABN TV’s Sam Shamoun and David Wood. If you head to the Christian’s profile, you’d notice his picture is one of a crusader, they were known for massacring Muslims and Jews for a vast amount of their history. In other words, our Muslim Br. Yemi Lawal is being attacked by a Christian who not only hate him, but if provided the opportunity, would hurt him.

May Allaah ta ‘ala protect him from such evil, Ameen.

Debate: Is Islam a Threat to Modern Society, Sami Zataari vs David Wood

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ,

You can view the debate here:

Below’s my review of their opening statements.

David’s Opening

I found it quite distasteful, if not outright insulting for David to have an audible preamble before his opening arguments. Usually, this would contain greetings, pleasantries, thanking the organizers, commenting on the person’s experience thus far in the country and so on. In contrast to this norm, David Wood decided to appeal to emotion, mentioning the sentencing of 7 Christians in Egypt for the ‘Innocence of Muhammad [saws]’ film. What he fails to mention is that his own God, YHWH, permitted the killing of children for insulting a Prophet:

“From there Elisha went up to Bethel.  While he was on his way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him.  “Go up baldhead,” they shouted, “go up baldhead!”  The prophet turned and saw them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord.  Then two shebears came out of the woods and tore forty two of the children to pieces.” – 2 Kings 2:23-24

He also failed to mention that the blasphemy laws in Egypt are also used on Muslims, in this recent case, a Muslim was charged under it for tearing the Bible on TV. Therefore, I must declare David’s preamble to be nothing more than a manipulative and incredulous act for which he should apologize for. I am willing to accept his statements if they were inclusive of his opening statement, but since this is not the case, I must condemn such an intellectually disrespectful act. I’d like to know if Sami agreed to David’s doing of this before the debate began and if not, why the moderator did not stop David or begin timing once the nature of the statements had resonated with his thought process.

David decided to limit his areas of discussion to two topics, they were:

  1. Islam as a threat to non-Muslims.
  2. Islam as a threat to women.

Beginning with (1) he states:

  • Islam’s attitude to non-Muslims is a threat to society.

David mention’s what the Qur’an says about Muslims and then compares what the Qur’an says about non-Muslims. I can’t say I found this to be a strong argument, or a viable one at that. The entire concept of considering yourself a ‘believer’ in any ‘religion’, presupposes that you consider ‘disbelievers’ to be wrong and thus for being wrong, God would employ some form of punishment on them. Disbelievers would quite obviously be seen in a negative light, unequal to the status of believers. A fair question to David would have to be, whether or not he realises this and if he believes that there are no negative remarks about ‘infidels’ (a natively Christian term), in the Bible. Here are some examples of negative mentions of disbelievers in the Bible: 1, 2, 3. As a theist, David should have atleast recognized the double standard he was employing, I’m not sure if he was naive enough to believe that such an infantile argument would be supportive of his views, if he did, that was indeed poor of him.

He found issue with the Qur’an mentioning that believers are the best people and disbelievers are the polar opposite, the worst of peoples. Does David believe that the elect in Christianity, those saved by Christ, are not the best of peoples and that the disbelievers, those condemned to eternal perdition are the best of peoples? The hypocrisy from David is absolutely mind blowing. It was of course, compulsory according to common Evangelical tactics to mention Qur’an 5:51, unfortunately for David, as has been stated time and time again, the word for friend in Arabic is ‘sadiq’, the word for protector, military ally, is ‘awliya’, one example of the context of this verse is the Prophet’s initial treaty with Banu Qurayza until they sided with the Qurayshi army and thus caused significant distress and harm to Muslims. Then again, David is an Evangelical Christian, from amongst the ilk of Sham the Shamoun and James White, I have learned in the few years I have been active in this realm of apologetics that this low level of study is prevalent among them. If there’s a cheap tactic to use, be sure that they’d use it.

Might I remind David, that the Jews whom he refers to as his friends in being condemned as disbelievers in the Qur’an, that his very own Bible paints are far worse picture. Is it better to be the worst of all creatures, or the children of Satan? Would David please answer this question?

“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God. 48 The Jews answered him, “Aren’t we right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-possessed?” – John 8:44-48

David proceeded to mention that Muhammad [saws] decided to rid the Arabian peninsula of non-Muslims via expulsion to establish a proper state for him and his oppressed brethren. How would David then measure up to Zechariah 14, where Christendom believes with the second coming of Christ that all non-elect would be ejected from the Holy Land and then brought only to be forced into worship, or else face torture and disease for not doing so? He continued by mentioning, that if Muhammad [saws] did not want to live alongside Christians and Jews in the Arabian peninsula, and we Muslims have to abide by his Sunnah, how can we expect to have a modern society? David is appealing to ad ignorantium, as Muslim societies have always flourished with a plethora of faiths. When the Muslims entered Africa, Abysinnia, what happened? Peaceful co-existence, when the Muslims conquered Egypt from the Roman Empire, again there was peace among the majority Coptic population. When the Muslims conquered Iberia from the Trinitarian Catholics persecuting Arian Christians and Jews, there was again prevailing tolerance and peace. The 4 rightly guided Caliphs and their reign, did not entail any persecution of Jews or Christians, therefore history and a proper studied of Islamic history, as opposed to a prima facie reading of one hadith is the opposite of what is required to derive sensible, and intellectually acceptable arguments.

Continuing with (1) his second sub point is:

  • Islam commands Muslims to violently subjugate non-Muslims.

He begins with the notion that there is some magical 3 step program that Muslims follow to take over the world, from wherein we then persecute anyone and everyone. Argumentum ad Baculum indeed. The 3 step program he mentions, is as follows:

  1. When Muslims are outnumbered, proclaim peace.
  2. When Muslim numbers increase, they are permitted to engage in defensive Jihad. He cites Qur’an 22:39-40 as evidence for this.
  3. He doesn’t mention his 3rd stage, but logically, it would have to be when Muslims are in a majority. He cites Qur’an 9:29 as evidence for this.

His ‘3 stage step to taking over the world’ plan, isn’t particularly well studied. Whether outnumbered or not, as the Qur’an commands us in 25:63 to say peace even to those who mock, insult and attack us. No mention of ‘numbers’ there. Similarly, defensive fighting is also prescribed when Muslims were in fact, in charge of the first Muslim state, see Qur’an 2:190-194 which echoes similar sentiments to Qur’an 22:39-40, although Surah 2 was revealed in the ‘3rd’ stage of David’s plan. There is a clear false dichotomy.

Continuing with (1) his third and final sub point on this topic is:

  • Islam’s command to kill apostates.

The problem with this point, is how would one actually know if a Muslim has left Islam? The only reason one would know if a Muslim left Islam, is if he publicly declared it, therefore inviting the punishment upon himself. There is no room in Islam for punishing a person without reason. The person can leave the nation where Islam is dominant and avoid the punishment, or remain in the nation while openly condemning Islam and mocking it, thereby earning a punishment for such a crime. The same can be seen in ‘free and secular Western nations’, where dissidents undergo torture and renditions where they are imprisoned indefinitely and oppressed, not to mention that the punishment for treason is overwhelmingly death.

David then moved on to his second main topic, “The Status of Women According to Islam”. He begins by stating that Islam ‘drastically reduces the status of women’, despite the fact that the very first University in the world was started by a Muslim woman. His arguments were shoddy at best, he found problems with the Prophet [saws] asking spouses not to do actions which displeased each other, he even attacked the traditional heterosexual familial hierarchy where the man (usually the breadwinner) in most societies is seen as a figurehead in the home. This leads me to question David’s concept of women, doe she truly believe that there is an issue with not doing acts which displeases a spouse? Would that then mean, he approves of doing acts which displeases a spouse? I wouldn’t consider David an expert on marriage relations, but that is probably the worst advice you can receive on relationship counselling. Furthermore, does David accept the notion that a man does not have to lead a household, if so, is he willing to have his wife (if he is to be married, or if he is, I don’t kn0w) be the sole earner for his behalf and his protector in the event of a violent incident? This is clearly what his arguments are demonstrating.

David also found issue with Qur’an 2:23, which explains the sexual acts which are permitted in the Muslim marriage. I suppose that David does not accept stipulations when it comes to his sexual desires, otherwise, I find no reason for issue to be found with this verse. His first issue with Islam and women, is the “Support of Wife Beating“. What he fails to understand is the language of the Qur’an. The Qur’an does permit beating, but it permits a beating which leaves a mark or causes bruising. If you are fair skinned (in complexion) or caucasian, you can test this beating on yourself. Strike yourself with your finger such that it does not produce a pink or red imprint on the hand. Doing so, you’d find it impossible to feel pain. It’s actually quite difficult to hit someone without producing a mark on the skin. Therefore when the Qur’an mentions that you can hit your disobedient wife, it is really rhetorically letting the male know that abusing women is haram, this is understood due to the corresponding hadith on this issue:

” Right along with this option given to men, it has appeared in a hadith which means that, “The best of you will never beat their women.” Thus, (for example) such an action is nowhere reported from the blessed Prophet of Allah. – (Ma’arif al-Qur’an 2:426)”

Therefore, if beating in the manner that David was referring to was allowed, we would have seen it in practised by the Prophet [saws], since this is not the case, then David’s interpretation of the verse is completely out of context. His second issue with “Islam and Women”, is that Islam allegedly claims that “Women are Stupid“. He refers to Qur’an 2:282 refers to the testimony of women when it comes to contracts. What he fails to realise is that:

  1. A woman is not allowed to be in a room with a single man without a Mahram, moreso with more than one man.
  2. To avoid false witness due to forced coercing, she should have someone alongside her to prevent him from forcing her to sign against her will.

This therefore, has nothing to do with her mental capabilities, but with protecting the rights of a woman. It is very ironic then, that David chooses, he willingly chooses to interpret this verse as meaning that women have half the intellectual capabilities of men, or that they are stupid. I must then, regard David’s interpretation as being representative of his own personal view of women, while they are clearly in polar opposites to the intended meaning of the Qur’an. It is in this light, that I call upon David Wood to apologize to the female community and to cease his sexist remarks against our beloved womenfolk. Nowhere does the Qur’an mention in this verse, that women are less intelligent as men or that they are not as reliable. Shaykh GF Haddad explains this hadith in its entirety, which I recommend that Christian and Muslim alike, read to develop an authentic and accurate interpretation, as opposed to preconceived sexist notions of which David has duly demonstrated.

David’s third issue is that, “Islam Allows Marriage to Prepubescent Girls“. I would like to remind David, that in Islam, there is a difference between marriage and consummation. I’m sure he is well aware of this, but then again, he cannot appease his masters and his congregation without being deceptive. Does David relegate marriage to be merely about sexual relations? In Islam, this is not the case, when a man marries a female, he assumes three responsibilities, none of which are sex. They are:

  1. The responsibility of sheltering the wife, or of providing a shelter for her.
  2. The responsibility of feeding the wife, or of providing food for her.
  3. The responsibility of clothing the wife, or of providing clothes for her.

Nothing about sex need be stated. In fact, if a girl is married according to some contract and she rejects it, then the girl is subsequently divorced from the man. No consummation need occur. Similarly, no consummation can occur without a female’s approval, as well as no marriage is valid without a female’s consent. David’s gripe is with marriage to prepubescent girls, the problem with his argument, is that Muhammad [saws] consummated the marriage, post the prepubescent stage, what is termed as the stage of sexual maturity in biology and Islam. That being, when the female stops being a child, or in this case a girl and is in the process of womanhood.

David’s closing to his opening statement is probably as bad as they can come, he has issues with suicide attacks, but doesn’t find issue with suicide attacks endorsed by his own God, YHWH, see Judges 16. He found issue with 40% of Muslims wanting to be judicially guided by their religious law, I guess David, if he were to be honest, would find issue with the American Government passing laws which accedes to Christian beliefs? If not, can he publicly announce such a position, or would his evangelical brethren crucify him for such a stance? He spews off a few more statistics and ends his opening statement. I would easily challenge David on his question of, “what is the correlation between the statistics from the OECD and Muhammad’s [saws] teachings?“. To be quite honest, the nations he referenced have one or more of the following which contributed to their current status:

  1. Former colonies, therefore they lack infrastructure and wealth.
  2. Recently independent, whereas nations higher on the OECD list had some 300 years of Independence to rule, govern and develop their nations, David expects wealth deficient nations to do so in a vastly less amount of time.
  3. Dependent upon economic aid.
  4. Recently engaged in civil war or have been in a perpetual state of internal conflict post-Independence.
  5. Recently experienced droughts or have been experiencing droughts for extensive periods of time.

Therefore, the notion that it is Islam’s fault that these nations are as they currently present themselves to be, is based on abject ignorance of these nation’s history. Not to forego the complete and utter arrogance of expecting developing nations to economically compete with developed nations. I would have to state that David’s opening statement would have been acceptable some 30 years ago, when Muslims were much less aware of their religion. However, David and the evangelical missionaries of the world are facing a new world, one were 20 year old Muslims like myself can debunk their statements, where mid 20 year old’s like Sami Zataari can refute and debate on a platform with someone twice his age without having to resort to cheap insults, disparaging remarks and snide comments, as David has done.

Sami’s Opening

Sami begins by demonstrating to David, how one actually starts a debate. You don’t drop propaganda, you don’t pass a few underhanded comments, you don’t sneak some emotional arguments in before your time (David took 4 minutes lambasting Muslims before beginning his officially timed Opening Statement), you thank the organizers and thank your opponent. I have to commend Sami on his professionalism in this case. Sami lays the law down on David in a very eloquent manner. He indicates that what David spoke about is largely irrelevant, as those were his own personal interpretations of the ayats of the Qur’an and Ahadith. David’s interpretation would not necessarily be that of a Muslim’s understanding, thus David was addressing a reality that only he, himself would believe. He continued by informing the crowd that David’s real argument came at the end of his rabid diatribe, David only began addressing the real beliefs and understandings of Muslims by quoting statistical information. Sami emphasized the importance of establishing a dichtomoy; there is a difference between David’s personal theological interpretations (eisegesis), and the ground reality in the real world.

When it comes to discussing the ground reality, Sami let it be known that this was his area of study, as Osama bin Laden and Extremism was his thesis’ topic. His dissertation was subsequently accepted, thus allowing him to be an authority, or qualified in the subject area, hence his insistence on discussing this topic as opposed to perceived theological notions. Sami calls David out on his irrational logic, he questions him by stating that what David was doing, was that he was quoting verses and applying it to persons, when what he should have really been doing was finding out what the motivations of extremists were. What did the extremists who carry out attacks actually believe? What verses do they quote? What ahadith do they use? Instead of claiming that verses David thinks they use is proper evidence, David should have really brought forth evidences from the persons themselves. Thus in Sami’s conclusion, David’s argument was more rhetoric, than it was applicable and relevant to the topic at hand. To be quite honest, I’d have to agree with Sami. He’s spot on, David did not address the topic, what he addressed was his biased presuppositions, a departure from reality.

Acting upon his own counsel to David, Sami then goes to Osama bin Laden’s very own, “Declaration of War with the United States” dated to be from 1996. Therefore Sami didn’t rely on rhetoric or propaganda (as David’s irrelevant Creeping Shari’a comments were), but he depened upon Bin Laden’s own statements. Did Bin Laden do what he did, due to Qur’an 9:29? His manifesto does not mention this as a motivating factor, according to Sami, Bin Laden’s motivating factors were the aggressions of the US military in Arabian Peninsula, the US support of the Israeli Apartheid State. He also mentions that Bin Laden repeated this as his motivating factors in a 1997 interview with Abdel Bari Atwan, a London journalist. I have to applaud Sami’s use of relevant argumentation and his subsequent use of first person sources is absolutely sensational. As of this stage, Sami has clearly negated and rightfully so, a majority of David’s opening statement and has taken control of the debate. After calling David out on his largely irrelevant diatribe, Sami delve straight into the thick of the topic and immediately set the criteria for which the topic could be argued logically about. In doing so, and by referencing first person sources, I have no choice but to deem Wood as being out of Sami’s league and as being caught highly off guard.

Sami moved on to quote his own statistics, after establishing the reasoning and rationale of Extremists, he went on to state what academics themselves believe about the Extremists. He referred to a study by the National Bureau of Economic Research which amounts to saying, “civilian casualties in Afghanistan at the hands of foreign troops creates enemies and causes people to become radicalised“. As the report itself states, “In Afghanistan we find strong evidence that local exposure to civilian casualties caused by international forces leads to increased insurgent violence over the long-run, what we term the ‘revenge’ effect.”, thereby qualifying his claim. Sami also referenced the Washington Post which had this to say, “the escalating campaign of U.S. drone strikes [in Yemen] is stirring increasing sympathy for Al-Qaeda-linked militants and driving tribesmen to join a network linked to terrorist plots against the United States.” Thus far, Sami has presented a logical, well reasoned argument that has extensive amounts of international study to qualify his claims. Not only has Sami stuck to the topic, unlike that of his opponent, Sami’s actually going to Western Academia, not Arab based studies or Sami’s personal convictions or his own personal interpretations of the conflicts.

He then moved on to another report, where New York University and Stanford University examined the effects of the US Administration’s drone strikes in the Pakistani Tribal region, according to the Guardian [UK], it entails, “the report details the terrorizing effects of Obama’s drone assaults as well as the numerous, highly misleading public statements from administration officials about that campaign. The study’s purpose was to conduct an “independent investigations into whether, and to what extent, drone strikes in Pakistan conformed to international law and caused harm and/or injury to civilians.” At this point, Sami had actually referenced more academic sources than Wood, cited essential points, quoted the most relevant statistics than the entire time Wood actually spoke. You’d notice that the heat was getting a bit intense for Wood as each time Sami quoted another research paper, he took a swig from his bottled water. Sami then mentioned the false dichotomy of ‘good terrorism’ versus ‘bad terrorism’. When Western Administrations bombard civilian villages, it’s okay, but the moment a villager retaliates, they’re seen as barbaric, evil, and malicious.

Sami then referenced what he called the, ‘smoking gun’ of the debate, he references the Arizona State University’s Center for Strategic Communication’s report on Islamic Extremism which examined over 2000 texts used by extremists dating from 1998 to 2011. The study states, “Other findings in the report raise questions about the veracity of claims often made by analysts. The most surprising is the near absence of the well-known “Verse of the Sword” (9:5) from the extremist texts. Widely regarded as the most militant or violent passage of the Qur’an, it is treated as a divine call for offensive warfare on a global scale. It is also regarded as a verse which supersedes over one hundred other verses of the Qur’an that counsel patience, tolerance, and forgiveness. We conclude that verses extremists cite from the Qur’an do not suggest an aggressive offensive foe seeking domination and conquest of unbelievers, as is commonly assumed. Instead they deal with themes of victimization, dishonor, and retribution. This shows close integration with the rhetorical vision of Islamist extremists.

Based on this analysis we recommend that the West abandon claims that Islamist extremists seek world domination, focus on counteracting or addressing claims of victimage, emphasize alternative means of deliverance, and work to undermine the “champion” image sought by extremists.

It is noteworthy to realise that none of the passages from the Qur’an which David referenced as a cause for Islamic extremism, was found to be in any of the 2000 texts examined in the report. For me, this is what catapulted the debate into Sami’s hands and ended it. There was no need for Sami to continue from this point, as he had gone above and beyond the requirements needed to overcome David’s rant. Recall that I mentioned earlier, that each time Sami cited a reference from a major publication or academic study, David rushed to take a swig of his water? Here it is in motion, as Sami is about to quote the Arizona State University’s study, David rushes to sip his water, the heat of the moment clearly causing some thirst as it would seem. Sami then went one step further, he mentioned his interview with Counter Terrorism Expert, Mubin Shaikh and the result of this interview is that Mubin statess, while he had infiltrated a terrorist cell, the verses and ahadith used by David Wood were never used by the extremists themselves. The irony of this, is mind blowing to be truthful. Continuing with his trend of using internationally acclaimed and renowned sources, he then referred to ex-CIA, Head of the OBL Unit, Michael Scheuer, who stated that 9/11 occurred due to America’s horrid foreign policy strategies. Moving on, Sami headed to the 9/11 Commission’s Report interview with Special Supervisor with the FBI, Agent James Fitzgerald, which the Guardian [UK] reported on:

“At the 12th and final public hearing of the 9/11 commission on 16 June, 2004, in Washington DC, a phalanx of senior law-enforcement and intelligence officials from the US government arrived to offer their testimonies. “You’ve looked [at] and examined the lives of these people as closely as anybody … What have you found out about why these men did what they did?” asked Lee Hamilton, the former congressman and vice-chair of the commission. “What motivated them to do it?”

The answers to these questions were provided by supervisory special agent James Fitzgerald of the FBI. “I believe they feel a sense of outrage against the United States”, he said. “They identify with the Palestinian problem, they identify with people who oppose repressive regimes and I believe they tend to focus their anger on the United States.”

David quoted quite a few polls on Muslim acceptance of violence, funnily enough, an American poll, established that American Jews and Christians (of David’s ilk), were more likely to justify violence against civilians than Muslims were. That violence being military on civilian and civilian on civilian was justified, both times Christians vastly outnumbered Muslims in the affirmative. Sami then went on to explain freedom of speech laws and their already existing limits, placing Wood’s arguments in the realm of being nothing more than fear-mongering and paranoia. This concludes Sami’s opening arguments.

David’s Pros and Cons:

+ He showed up for the debate.
+ He quoted a proper source or two.
– Failed to stick to the topic except for his final 2 minutes.
– Failed to argue relevant points pertinent to Sami’s sources.
– Failed to refute Sami’s sources and arguments.

Sami’s Pros and Cons:

+ Vastly superior sources from a spectrum of internationally acclaimed groups, organizations and individuals.
+ Stuck to the topic.
+ Addressed all of David’s points.
+ Spoke confidently and with authority.
+ Engaged with the audience.
– Can’t hold a mic to save his life. Here’s a tip, next time don’t hold it.
– Buy a hairbrush.

David Wood Cowers from a Muslim’s Questions

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ,

I’ve never really seen David Wood as a Christian scholar, at best he’s someone who has partially read Muhammad ibn Ishaq’s (ibn Yasar’s) works and maybe a few Answering Islam articles on Qur’anic ayat. His debate with Ali Ataie really demonstrated his inability to argue beyond this knowledge limitation which he possesses, while he constantly demonstrates a vast ineptitude in Biblical studies. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that when David is questioned on the Bible, he sticks his tail between his legs and avoids discussing his book’s wanton genocide and terrorism. Check out this 15 minute video clip as Br. Paul Bilal Williams, a former Christian, takes David to task:
