My Trip to a Catholic Monastery in the Caribbean

I recently took a trip to one of the oldest and still in use Monasteries in the Caribbean today. About a 15 minute drive from my University, this is Mount St. Benedict’s Monastery. It also produces yogurt which is halaal for the Muslims to consume. The experience was very pleasant. The location is very eerie and cold (high up a mountain), and the roads leading to it are winding and very dangerous. We had a lot of fun at the Monastery though. We mostly took pictures while my Christian friends prayed, then they took pictures too. Very few people were here and when the time for Mass came (as indicated by the schedule photo below), it was mostly empty.

Apparently you can leave letters for St. Benedict to read and then grant your wishes miraculously, this was odd.

  • The place was cool though. Pretty.

  • Thanks! You should see my instagram for more.

  • You have Christian friends? Were you not able to convince them of Islam? After all, you have a very good site here that refutes the Christian beliefs.

  • Hi Eman,

A majority of my close and personal friends are Christian. I don’t try to convince them of anything and they don’t try to convince me of anything. A lot of people have the misconception that Muslims like myself sit around all day speaking down to Christians, when the reality is quite different.

This is my hobby, something I do because I enjoy religious discourse, I’ve never dissuaded my friends from following their respective faiths. It is God who guides, not me.

    Hope that answers your question.

  • Hi again Ijaz,

I guess it answers my question for the most part but I have one more thing to ask.
I agree that it is God who guides people to Islam, but isn’t dawah something we Muslims should do even if it is for our non Muslim friends? You say you never dissuaded them but I’m sure you mentioned Islam to at least some of them right?

  • Hi,

Well I’ll give you a little insight, my current Christian friend went from assuming all Muslims were evil, war plotting extremists, to helping spread the mats for Dhuhr Salaah.

Da’wah isn’t merely mentioning words or producing arguments, there’s a million and one ways to do it and the best da’wah is to simply be a good Muslim, atleast from my experiences.

  • I understand what you mean.
    May Allah guide us all
